me vs. riviera

raced my friend tonight who had his dad's early model riviera. we went from a stop, and i had him off the line. he started to catch up fast while i was about to hit third, when i miss third , i see him fly by me with, what i though was smoke, pouring out of his car. it appears his fan cut his radiator hose...antifreeze everywhere, even on my windshield. i was surprised i did as good as i did, considering i just have a 95 accord with an intake and header, probably because he had an auto. not sure on the year of the riviera, i'll have to post that later.

Re: me vs. riviera

Sounds like your buddy had a broken motor mount which let the motor move around enough for the fan to cut the radiatior hose. Those Rivieras can be pretty fast, but its pretty hard to judge them all by one 30+ year old car. Owner maintenance and engine rebuild quality come into play. The most powerful had 370hp and 500 lb-ft of torque in 1970.
