Re: Performace thermostat

I want to run hotter.. with 100 octane so as not to detonate!

I read some info at the link you provided. If someone makes the car run cooler they're not tricking the ECM at all, the car is cooler. If they want to richen the mixture by tricking the ECM I would suggest tricking itat the O2 sensor. I couldn't tell you how to do it with a four wire O2 sensor, but with a single wire sensor it would just be an inline (in series) resistor. I don't know what the value would be, but the idea is to trick the ECM into thinking the exhaust is lean. On a single wire O2 sensor lean is about .1Vvolts and rich is about 1.1 Volts. Just get an assorted pack of 1/8 watt resistors (or a varriable resistor) from radio shack. Then unplug the O2 harness and measure the voltage to ground(-) from the sensor(+) (with the engine running). The sensor actually makes voltage based on the heat in the manifold (more heat=leaner exhaust=lower voltage). Keep checking the voltage with and without the resistor until you get a resonable drop. One problem: I believe the O2 sensor only controls (indirectly) the pulse width of the signals at the fuel injectors which is probably only a minimal increase in richness. More major increases in fuel delivery could be accomplised by adjusting the pulse frequency at the injectors, not nearly as easy. If you want more fuel I would simply change to an aftermarket fuel pressure regulator and increase the pressure by about 5% or 10%.

i ran sunoco race fuel, there was 100,104 and 110, i use 104 octane with and without NITROUS and have no problem and if you use nitrous and u have detonation it will cause a lot of serious problems, so theres no need for hotter thermostat, have u ever use racing fuel? you can tell the difference after the premium and 104 fuels mix together, smoother and better take off and lot better top end but the smell of the exhaust when its burnin is well worth the 5 dollars a gallon i pay for it.

man do you know u just went thru a bunch stuff that either i know how to do or is done so its worthless, i dont know why i guess to make urself look smart or something but i dont need additional fuel rip off mods like cuz 1) i have fpr 2) i have a S-AFC which can increase fuel delivery up to 50%, 3) got 450ccs injectors comin 4) 2g eclipse fuel pump. so no need more fuel here. the reason i link that to you is cuz i thought u were thinkin backwards but i guess u u know ur shizzy, so go on dood,

Your right let's keep it simple. Just got the car so just a LITTLE more power is what I'm looking for. That's why I want the engine hotter by about 20 degrees F. I'm not looking to put to much into it, a $10 thermostat (if anyone has one) to make the mixture burn faster. If your engine is already running right (not detonating) you won't get any benefit from a higher octane unless you or your ECM advances the timing or increase the temp of the engine. I don't know yet if the 2002 Mirage I'm working on has a knock sensor, but if it does it may advance the timing automatically. Some cars do, more to compensate for low octane situations, but it works both ways. They advance the timing until they detect a knock, then retard it slightly, that's how they compensate for different fuels.
PS. You don't have to spend $5.00 per gallon on Sunoco race fuel. Use toulene as an additive. You can find it at any paint store. Here's a link describing the ratios: http://www.team.net/sol/tech/octane_b.html
It works too. My friend built a 504 CID 700hp engine intended to run 93 (street gas), but it was detonating pretty bad. Had to retard the ignition when he wasn't running $5.00 per gal racing gas (MSD ignition). He heard about toulene so he tried it, worked perfect. He started with the full mixture shown at the website above, but now he only uses the toulene and dropped the other parts of the recipe.

well i have a question does this toulene contain any lead, cause i know lots of people have those older big engines and use that kinda stuff in there fuel and i thought it did contain some http://www.racegas.com/fuelspecs/default.asp shows here that the maximal fuel contains lead and has the highest octane just a concern since were suppose to use unleaded fuel.

Re: Performace thermostat

Good question, I'll try to find out. I've used it in all of my cars and bikes at different times without a problem, but not for an extended time. There's no doubt you wouldn't want to run lead though a catalytic converter, and my friend didn't have one on his Road Runner. I'll get back to you on that.
