Question Cams

Would it make any difference if I got new cams in my 1997 3.8 v6? I heard that it makes the car sound much better. Is this true and how much would it cost for installation?

Re: Cams

well there is alot more to a "new" cam than just putting in a cam. you have to deside how much lift, duration, advance, timing, lobe seperation angle, overlap, roller vs flat tappit, hydrolic vs solid. the ammount of hp and torque, as well as where the power peak, and powerband are are dependent on these variables. as far as cost, anywhere from 150-350bucks would be around average. i would call comp cams cam help line. they would be able to suggest the best cam for your application. depending on what your plans and purposes for the car are.

Re: Cams

Ive heard that it is very difficult to install new cams like you have to pull the whole engine to get it in. How much would it cost for installation??

Re: Cams

??? naw man, im not exactly fully up to speed on the sixers, but on a smallblock, you gotta take off the intake, and all the stuff on the front of the engine, timing cover, pullies, belts, loosen the rocker arms, pull out the pushrods, and remove the lifters, pull out the distributor, all that, pull out the radiator, all of which really isnt that hard. the cam pulls out the front of the engine. the new one slides in, its really easy. then put it all back together. should be similar for your V6, not really that big of a deal. my rough estamate as far as my experience, would be arround 9 hours work, or around 750 bucks.
