My First Truck: '91 Silverado *PIC*
Here it is, my very first truck: 1991 Silverado Sport
![]() It has a new 350 crate with a rebuilt trans. The only upgrades so far is a set of Hedman headers and dual exhaust. Still not too sure if I want to keep the 20's though;they might look better once I lower it . It has 170,000 miles on the body and a little over 5,000 on the engine. I love it already. Im wondering, whats the difference (if there is any) between a Sport and a regular Silverado? Also, I'm wanting to gain some hp and was wondering whats the most bang for the buck upgrade that I can do to my truck.

Thats a good looking truck. I dont know of much differences. I do know the sport trucks had black grilles and bumpers and stuff. JET Performance makes a chip for those engines. It cost $149 and claims to add 17-22 horsepower. I dont know if it works or if it would cause damage, but if it really added that much horsepower for only $150, it would be a bargain.

I'm sorry, but I would definitely ditch those rims!!!
Some of the Chevrolet Sports actually came a 454cid in them. I think they have a sport suspension, a little different than the regular Silverado~

You said you wanted to Lower it huh? Sell those UGLY rims and buy a lowering kit! Anything would look better then those, expecially on a truck at stock height. The K&N Air Filter is going to be your best "Bang for the Buck" with performance gain! And I would tint those windows!! But that is a Really nice looking truck as it is (without those rims) Cool Man

I like it. The rims aren't bad but it doesn't look right because it's still the stock height, lowering it would make it look great. Alaskan was right, the windows need to be tinted. As far as performance, if your engine is already kinda built, you throw a different rear end in. They aren't exactly cheap but you would seriously notice the difference.

yea i have to agree that you ditch the rims, tint the windows, and lower it about 5 to 6 inches. But maybe if it was lowered the rims would look good with the truck.

Yeah, I'm still sketchy about the rims. I'm gonna take the dust covers off to try and take some of the blinging out and see if it looks better.

Re: My First Truck: '91 Silverado *PIC*
The higher the rear end number (.410) the lower the gear is. That basically means the higher the number, the more power you have off the line (this also will hurt your fuel mileage)

Without getting too much in depth, if you have a 3.42 rear end your driveshaft rotates 3.42 times for every once your tires rotate. If you put in a lower gear ( higher number ), you will have better take off but worse top speed. And yeah, gas milage goes down the crapper. As for cost, usually, $200-$300.

Re: My First Truck: '91 Silverado *PIC*
Well see thats the way it is right now. Through first and second I can be hauling ass then about third gear it seems to lose alot of its power. I'm trying to gain some of that top end power.

If thats the case, you might want to go to a higher gear (lower number). Maybe someone already put a different rear end in. My buddy has a '92 sport, it has a 3.42 gears but it was surprisingly ballsy on the take off. If you want to know what your rear end is, Jack the rear axle off the ground, put it in neutral, put a mark on your tire and a mark on your driveshaft. Count how many times your driveshaft goes around when you rotate your tire one revolution. Do this slowly because 3.73 turns of your driveshaft looks a lot like 3.42 turns. This will tell you what gears you have so you can consider what other gears to go to.
