tips on turn loose the rodeo caliper bolt
I can't seem to turn loose the caliper 14mm bolt on my right hand side brake caliper. It's so tight. I tried wd-40 and still as hard as a rock.
I broke my 3/8 driver already. I am thinking about using a vise grip plier. any idea?

Re: tips on turn loose the rodeo caliper bolt
Try using some penetrating oil. I dont think WD40 really gets inside and helps break things loose.
Id maybe try using a breaker bar before I would resort to vise grips.

Re: tips on turn loose the rodeo caliper bolt
1/2" drive breaker bar and real penetrating oil (wd40 is a water displacing oil) is the only way to go with it.

Re: tips on turn loose the rodeo caliper bolt
dont forget the right side opposite the left which means you losen to the right and tighten to the left. that may be your problem. i know its a common sense thing but you'de be surprised how many people forget

Re: tips on turn loose the rodeo caliper bolt
Thanks .
I do remember right from left which mean "left to turn loose" no matter which side you're on. But this thing is a rock. I am going to try today and will let you know Got a real heavy duty 1/2 driver and a new 6 point socket set just for that.

Re: tips on turn loose the rodeo caliper bolt
I think the problem was the 12 point socket.
The 6pt socket did it .

Re: tips on turn loose the rodeo caliper bolt
I've been working on cars for 20 years and if I get upside down under a car or turned around in some other direction, I still can get confused on which way to turn the fastener.
Oh and the right tools sure help too. Sometimes your $3.00 3/8 drive ratchet just won't do it. |
