Peformance FWD tranny's 5spd/6spd

I'm just curious maybe someone knows something out there that I've never heard?

I'm on another board and theres talks of a 400 HP 5spd/6spd not sure if it'll happen, but it simply amazes me theres no aftermarket for this stuff.

I'm pushing the tranny to the limits and is the only thing that really worry's me. Maybe I'll have to wait till the G6 Pontiac comes out with the 6spd. Is the FWD market not that big? damn the transverse setup on my car

Re: Peformance FWD tranny's 5spd/6spd

Power doesn't limit the use of a gearbox, torque does.

Xtrac, Hewland and several manufacturers of high performance gearboxes have transverse gearboxes for FWD cars, or gearsets for stock transmissions. Transverse 4WD gearboxes can also be used with some modifications, most of those are however quite expensive (usually between $10,000-70,000).

Transverse FWD gearboxes can't be made as strong as other type of gearboxes since there are quite tight space limitations.
