mx6 93 v6 stalls after 3000 rpm-distributor related?

Hi, my Mazda MX6 1993 v6 (65,000 miles) started stalling recently after accelerating to over 3000 rpm, It idles fine and remains running under 3000 rpm. I invoked the test engine mode by grounding the TEN pin of the diagnostic box and got a code 17 in the dash that relates to the left or front oxigen sensor. I un-grounded the TEN pin and disconnected the battery long enough to clear the data of the ECU. I started the car and accelerated it to 3000 rpm until it stalled again. I entered the test engine mode again but could not replicate the 17 code. I decided to rule out to oxigen sensor since the engine appears to adjust the rpm to about 700 when warm and around 1300 while cold. I verified the resistance value of most sensors and they seem fine acording to the specs.

I read an aritcle that states that a related problem with very similar symptoms was found to be due to an open in the distributor stator-coil circuit leaving no erros registered in the ECU (http://homepage.ntlworld.com/dorothy...es/tsbpg15.gif) . Apparently that creats a no-spark condition that kills the engine. Has anyone experienced this problem and could add some input? I am afraid that a no code problem could be dragged into days of troubleshooting when I take it to the shop.

Thanks for your time....

Hi Mx6 owner.,

I recently had a Mx6 but had to sell it because we are expecting a baby
within a day or two I envey you as they are a great car
but to get to your questioin they do have a fault with that model and can
be a real expence if you dont shop around. Normally when the car stalls
the computer will not let it restart for 5-10 mins if it restarts staight away
it may be something else like fuel related ie pump filter
I called mazda and they wanted $3000 australian to fix the problem
so I called a few wreckers who which they assured me it was a common promblem and they had reconditioned ones for $400 presto it was fixed
and i stopped stalling on the freeway.
:alien: :alien: :frog:
I hope this fixes your promblem
good luck pipe:smoka:
