saddle tank recall
my grandfather told me a few years ago that chevy recalled the 1973 to 1987 pickups' gas tanks due to their tendency apparently to explode in side impact collisions. he said he even got a check from GM for it. i was just wondering, having a 73 c-10 that i am currently restoring, how dangerous and serious this problem is. does anyone have any info on this matter?

Re: saddle tank recall
I am unsure on weather there was a recall or not but after this amount of time i doubt it would matter anyhow. Me personally if i was doing a restoration on a truck that originally had the tank or tanks outside the frame rails i would move them inside. And besides i think the trucks that usd to have the tank behind the seat were far more dangerous than the ones with saddle tanks.
