Re: lude vs. 300zx

I really think that it may be a drivers race... The 300 zx has more horsepower (222 i think) but the prelude might be lighter. I really dont know much about 300zx's or 5th gen ludes..

Re: lude vs. 300zx

I'm pretty sure the Z is lighter and its got more horsies. The Z should win.

Re: lude vs. 300zx

the z can't be lighter, RWD and a V6? plus rear wheel steering? no not lighter me thinks, but alot more power, torque especially.
is there a chance we will here the outcome of such a race?

Re: lude vs. 300zx

My fault on the weight. The Z car is definately a few hundred pounds heavier. It'd be a fun, tight race I think.

By newest model, you must mean the last model. The 300zx has been discontinued, replaced by the 350z.

Let's see, umm..

90-96 300zx NA
3.0L V6 DOHC, pumping out a 222hp, pulling 3200lbs RWD

92-96 Prelude VTEC
(Forgive me, I don't know the numbers for +97 off my head)
2.2L I4 DOHC VTEC, pumping out 190hp, pulling 2800lbs. FWD

It's close, but we'd *barely* come out the winner in a 1/4. We've got roughly the same 0-60 times, but our lighter weight (but not by much) helps us out in the long run.

I loved my old 1987 300zx TT. +90 models are even more powerful.

Re: lude vs. 300zx

The NA's didnt have HICAS. But the NA would beat the lude, unless eh messed up his launch bad.

Not to hijack this thread, but since we're already on the topic

what about:

96 Prelude VTEC w/Intake-Header
vs
85 300zx Turbo w/Intake

My old Z ran like a bat out of hell. Although not the powerhouses of the 90's Z, the 1983-1989 300zx still had the twin turbo setup doing 205hp on a RWD drivetrain. The Z would take the cake the first few dozen feet.

But I think a Prelude VTEC would catch up before the 1/4 mile.
