I guess if they imply that 'classic' should be 'rare, desierable and collectable' then the GNX fits the bill. However, if they only made 547 of them it does not give the rest of us much opportunity to enjoy them.

(Although I am sure there are a lot more than 547 GNX's now, if you know what I mean)
I think they should include all Grand Nationals as being classics too.

The GNX was definitely the high point of '80's American performance. And its rarity makes it a guaranteed collectible.

Man I have seen some GNX's go for 60,000+ dollars. Just wait untill they are as hold as ome of the hemi cudas or yenko cars . Also for how many where made in 87 the GN's bring alot of money. I think that it would be safe to say that out of mass produced cars the Turbo buicks are the most desired and valuable.

The GN was so hot that they extended the run beyond the date they were going to kill the G body. This is why you'll hear some GN's referred to as 1987 1/2. The Monte Carlos (also extended) were known as 1988's.

As the head Buick Forums Moderator, I think I should reply. THe GNX is the one of the, in not THE ultimate of all Buicks. The car combined looks, power, collectability, and wrapped it up in a tremendous package. The car was so special, Buick had ASC McLaren do the final modifications to make it what it came to be. Definatly my dream car

When was the date that # 547 was built? I ask, because I was born October 3rd, 1987, which makes it near impossible for me to own a GNX built the same day I was I definatly want a GN on that day though. Perhaps I can get a GNX built on Oct. 3, 1986

I don't think they were building the GNX's in 1986. We picked up our 1987 on December 13, 1986 and the GNX was still a probability. It seemed like they were built in early (Feb, March 1987). One of the things holding them back was product liability issues (whatever THAT means). I'll do some digging and see what I can find out.

Now that is a question: Which is the ultimate Buick: the 1987 Buick GNX or the 1970 Buick GSX? I will create a new thread for this question.
