speedometer

OK im new to the whole mazda rotary engines. i just bought a 88 rx7 for 300 bucks. This guy couldnt figure out y it wouldnt stay running or not start at all. i bought it hoping to be some small inexpensive fix, turns out didnt cost me a thing. Ground wire on the back of the motor, hooked it up thing runs like a champ. now i cant figure out what is up with my speedo. i dont know if the needle is just off or the cable or something is messed up. maybe somebody could tell me what the problem is. Have to get it fixed its costing me too much. got stopped by a cop and gave me a $130 ticket. just got pulled over last night for speeding but the cop didnt know how fast i was going he just said i was going to fast. got off with a warning there. Lucky

Re: speedometer

The speedo is mechanical. I would imagine starting with the cable and seeing if it is functional.

Re: speedometer

BTW - That ground wire for the engine is crappy.

Get some good heavy guage wire and ground the engine to the frame of the car. I have a 2 guage running from a bell housing bolt to the frame. Rx-7's are known for poor grounding. Ground your fuse block under the hood and your ecu. The evu is undr the carpet on the passanger side floor. There is a protective plate over it 4 10mm screws/nuts hold the cover in place.

Good luck w/ the car!!!
