i was almost set on a sr20det but the whole not passing smog bothers me i dont really care if its illegal because the laws are not inforced, but the not passing emmisions thing scared me. are there any swaps for a 240sx that will definitly pass emmisions? or are there any other cars that can handel good and have emmissions passing swaps or are allready fast so i can just start modifying it? even if i could pass a sr20det stock once i start to modify it it will just get harder and harder to pass right? does anyone have any input? what i should do? maybe its back to a 300zx i dont know im looking for a car that is pretty fast and handels good so i can modify it bolth for speed and handeling
maybe i can check aroud for some gas stations that sell inspection stickers or for a guy to bribe at the inspections place |

There's always the VG30ET, VG30DE ,VG30DETT, small block V8's, Infiniti V8's...all legal in the states and very doable...
The SR can pass smog...you just gotta make sure to like change your plugs and make sure everything is running smoothly...bribing the guy helps too. LOL |

If you lean out the fuel mixture before inspection, then it might pass inspection.

I e-mailed heavy throttle(srswap) about this problem.
They said to pass smog was you need a new downpipe and cat exaust. |

I dont know if it is do-able wishihadar34 but i was thinking - emmisions is easire for older cars right? - im not shure on this but i think so - so it may be eaiser to pass emmissions witha s13 240 with the sr swap rather than a 14 right? and does any engine s13 red top black top s14 or s 15 do better in emissions than the others

welp I do know there are street legal smog passing SR20 240's out there. I would think that a catback exaust would make it harder to pass emissions..... I would think, but not sure...... that a good running stock exaust, good intake, new spark plugs and a good cat would help you pass the smog test. I live in Florida and they just took away smog tests after some 20 years.... life is good! I plan on running 3" downpipe, 3" test pipe(no cat), 3.74" GT Spec Apexi exaust. to hell with the atmosphere my car won't mess it up much more then it already is.

hell ya, gotta love florida, not a spec of smog testing in sight, but they have that new law on street racing being passed on Oct. 1st that makes street racing a feloney after 2 times of getting caught, ohh well, thank god Florida doesnt hate drifting, but anyways back to smog, ya as soon as i find my 240 and trade in what i got now, gonna swap with the SR, and no smog to worry about, but you cant sell or give away a car with no cat on it, not sure what they'll do but who knows.

since rb engines from the skylines are already being imported into the US if i swap it into a 240 it would be totally emissions legal.
would it??????????? please say yes. does motorex do anything to the engine to make it emission legal??? i remember reading something on this but can't remember the facts. Florida has no emissions wow |

The SR20det is not legal anywhere, anyhow, anytime in the US. Any engine that was never originaly sold in a production vehicle in the US is illegal. The only way to get around engine swap laws is to have a car that is old enough to be exempt from smog, which in california means it has to be at least 29 years old, or it has to originally have been a diesel car. The only company that I know of that is working on making the engine legal is Motorex in gardena, California. I have talked to the Manager at Motorex and he said that they are still developing an EGR system for the engine that is clean and efficient. I spoke to him about 2 weeks ago and he said in 6 months from now, you will be able to drop your car off for 2 days at motorex and $300 later, your sr20det will become smog legal.
