Grd. Vt V6 engine noise
Hi guys & Gals.
I have a 2000 Gr. Vit. v6. It has about 40K miles. I change the oil & filter every 1000 miles (10w-30 or 10w-40 Quaker state only) But I have noticed that every morning when I start the car there is this hard ticking engine noise for a cople of seconds. Most of the time it sounds like valve noise but sometimes it sound even worse like the bearings of the crankshaft have gone bad. Help...What is this. I live in a warm climate (caribean) so clodness is not an issue (oil) Maybe my oil pump has gone bad> Help |

Re: Grd. Vt V6 engine noise
Possible timing chain tensioner.

Re: Grd. Vt V6 engine noise
it is very comon for that engine to make a lifter noise if they sit for awhile. it can also be the timming tensioner

Re: Grd. Vt V6 engine noise
Mine had the same problem, except it wasn't the timing chain. It was the exhaust valve inside the engine compartment - it was broken. I had it fixed about a year ago and everything was fine until recently the noise has returned. However, because it may be the timing chain (& a much easier fix) I wouldn't rule that out. Good Luck!!
