Fuel Pump Problem????
I have a 1996 yukon. Running at idle speed everything is okay. When I give it gas to go or even when giving it gas in park the engine starts to cut out on me as if it is not getting any gas. Is this a fuel pump problem or something else? Please help new to auto repair and a couple of places said this is probably the problem and another place told me the fuel pump if the problem would not allow the truck to start.

Re: Fuel Pump Problem????
My guess would be change the fuel filter first, its along the inside of the frame rail on the drivers side, just to the rear of the front door, and its an easier thing to swap than the pump first out, and cheaper. The pump is more difficult to change and requires dropping out the whole tank, as the pump is inside and only accessible from the top through the float level access hole. Change the filter it really is more likely the problem, especially if you haven't changed it at all.

The guy who told you that if there was a fuel pump problem the truck would have problems starting was right. I know as I went through this and ended up having to replace the pump to resolve the issue (an expensive fix)
Herefordman is right ....Try the filter first. |

Re: Fuel Pump
Clogged fuel and air filters can cause many driveability issues..replacement is fairly straight foreward.
