Maybe selling my Civic for a Teg...
Yep..it's true...SOHC Civics are S L O W! I was thinking about an Si...10k+ is just too much for a mere 160hp.
Anyway...I drove my friend's new (93) Integra GS with nothing done to it except a Stage2 clutch...damn that thing would smoke my lil economy car...and the clutch catches like no other XD So should I go thru with it? I want a 90-93 teg (B18A1) and to put a B16 head on it...will this work right? Just trying to get some last minute advice on whether I should do it or not... I posted a thread similar to this in the 92+ Civic forum...but of course they all said "stay with the civic it can be fast!!11oneone turbo it! do this do that blah blah" Just wanted to get a second opinion...thanks.

Re: Maybe selling my Civic for a Teg...
I think you could do a motor swap in the civic for less money and have a car that would be faster than an integra.

Re: Maybe selling my Civic for a Teg...
The money I use for the teg would be from selling my car though...and how would it be faster? The 90-93 Integra LS is a whopping 40 lbs lighter than the 92-95 Civic Ex...
Also.. DOHC > SOHC

Re: Maybe selling my Civic for a Teg...
I've found a few that I like around my area....One of them is sick..its black and lowered (just my style) with rims and it all looks hella clean and nice...but it has 215k miles on it...you think I'll be ok with that?
If I do get a teg I'm gonna replace the head, intake, intake manifold, exhaust, and header...should I have anything else to worry about having that much miles? Also, when the head is off I will prolly replace some small parts here and there....sorta rebuild.

Re: Maybe selling my Civic for a Teg...
man dont go with that teg, thats way to many miles, and chances are if its already modded, its been raced or atleast driven very hard, so thats way to many miles, but yes do what whtteg said and put a GSR motor in your civic, it should bet other integras no prob.

Re: Maybe selling my Civic for a Teg...
look my honest opinion is to stay with honda. i own a '97 teg and i love every bit of it. but if your looking power to weight ratio. it is better to spend less on a crx or civic hatch. then purchasing a low mileage gsr engine. max power... low weight. i can tell you this, i will always own a teg for power and looks combo so it is up to you.

Re: Maybe selling my Civic for a Teg...
i also like how the 90-93 tegs look...ppl think im dumb but i think they look sweet...
the main reasons im not staying with a civic is first..its a SOHC..and i dont wanna pay that much for a DOHC civic...and second its a civic..everyone and their brother has one..and everyone always wants to race and im tired of losing to freakin pick up trucks... conclusion: DOHC > SOHC

First off Kinked210, not everyone in the 92+ Civic forum said
Quote:
One of the main factors to consider is this...you were going to sell your civic for a 90-93 with 215K on it and lowered? First off, the mileage is way to high, IMO. Second, as someone else said, the mods "already done" most likely indicate the car was driven hard. Now I have a modded car and I don't beat the hell out of it by any means, but the point is most people do. 3rd, did he even lower it properly? You don't want to by other peoples problems, and that's what you'd be doing. If he lowered it with just springs and not new shocks, for example, you'll need new shocks, as the stock ones will be blown. Also, if he lowered it much beyond 1.75" and didn't have a camber kit, it'll wear out those pricy tires quickly. The point is, be careful what you buy. Be careful you are not buying someone elses problems created by incompetent modifying (I have seen a lot of incompetent modifying over the years). As I touched on in the other post, and someone mentioned in here, the power/weight ratio will be greater in the civic, with the same motor swapped it. Now you already have the civic, so if you just keep it until you can afford the swap, no worries...you have the car, your half way there. Weight plays a factor in speed. A 170HP GSR will be quicker in a 2100 5th gen DX hatch than in a 2500-2700 Integra. The reason is the curb weight. The civic is several hundred pounds lighter, therefor the motor has less weight to pull up to speed. That translates into a quicker car (just like your car is slower when you have 3 friends in it). Now I am not bashing Integras by any means. If you didn't have either yet, this would be a whole different story. However, you have a Civic already. I would just keep it, save up my $$ and swap in a B-series. You haven't mentioned FI as your goal for the motor, so a GSR is a good choice in that sense. The Benifit of this is simple. The GSR will be a low mileage engine, tranny, and ecu. 30K on a GSR motor swapped in (just an example number, mileage varies) will have much less wear and tear than a high mileage 90-93 LS, like that 215K one you looked at. Remember, in general, you want lower mileage, not higher mileage, on a motor. If you can't afford a swap, then as I said, just save your $$. You don't need the motor today. Your motor may be slow, but it runs. Now if you want an Integra? Of course there not bad cars, otherwise we wouldn't be suggestion throwing the motor in to the civic, and half of us here wouldn't have one. But just sit back and think about what you really want to do, and what's in your best interest money wise. Don't make an impulse buy is what I am saying. If you decide to get an Integra, look for one that was well cared for, and has lower mileage. Also, do yourself a favor and look for one that wasn't modded. There is less of a chance it was driven hard and beaten up. Last edited by eckoman_pdx; 02-15-2004 at 07:41 PM. |

It's nice to see I am appericated, lol. On a side note, you know what I would do, but at least that car has less milegae on it. Do yourself a favor and have a pre-purchuse inspection done before you buy it though(or any other car you are going to buy). Have someone run a Compression check in all the cylinders, this will tip you off as to the condition of the engine, etc. Check the condition of the brakes, find out from the owner if you can how often roution mantience was done and when the timing belt and water pump where done last, etc (If the timing belt brakes while you are driving, it will most likly ruin the motor, if you don't know when it was done last when you by the car, I always say it's best to just replace it, it's better safe than sorry with something like this). If you don't know how to inspect a car and run a compression check, or don't have the tools check any of it, have someone you trust who does good work check it out. It's better to try and know as much as you can before you buy a car, so you don't end up with any costly suprises. |
