aftermarket mods/void fac. wrnty??

Plain and simple what will a dealership let you do aftermarket without voiding the warranty if anything. Or does all this go fast stuff void the warranty and you just keep your stock parts to reinstall in case something happens? Ive heard rumors that even a remote start will void your warranty like if something electrical goes wrong they will blame it on the remote start and question the person who installed it. Please help i would love to safely and reliably turn my 260hp into like say 300 and wondering if 3.4 pulley 160 stat and a k&n or CAI would gain me 40 or so horse.

Re: aftermarket mods/void fac. wrnty??

Ok well this has been asked many times before.

Factory warantee: covers manufacturer defects in the product as well as some wear and tare items.

Most likly the factory will not like you doing this. There has been courte cases about this kind of thing, and it turns out a dealer cant refuse you warantee. But if they link the mod you did to the defect that happened they can.

Also, the best thing to do is make sure your dealer is ok with the mods you want and have them install them. That way if anythin ggoes wrong it is there fault not yours or someone elses.

On Club GP some people have gotten lucky and found stealerships that will still cover the car after being mod'd. There are also people that have had their warranty voided because of mods.

W/ a 3.4 pulley I doubt they will even know the difference

The argument is that the dealership has to prove that the mod you installed directly affected the part being worked on for warranty. I've heard horror stories of dealerships saying that different mufflers affected the car and voiding warranties.

Re: aftermarket mods/void fac. wrnty??

I will go with 89turbo944, I got the shop to mod the car for me and a contract. So all the mods that I am installing after that I go to them first to certify that I am not out of the contract. Originally they replaced engine and tranny. Both got busted.

Re: aftermarket mods/void fac. wrnty??

First of all as many here have argued and know my car engine/tranny were busted. So I took the car to the dealer and told them I want this car fixed and if you can make it 300hp and 300lb/ft then I will be happy. I asked for waranty and they put a contract in place for me.
Secondly I just installed the thrasher CAI and was not that hard. Which one you want to install? It tooks me a couple of ours and most of the time was making sure that it would look as much OEM as possible.
Have a pick:

But you are correct if your car is driveable they can use that as an excuse later. In my case mine was busted when it came in.

Re: aftermarket mods/void fac. wrnty??

im actually not sure with what 944 said and what ive read that a CAI is what i want to do. I could be wrong but for the money i believe i could do something different to gain more power. It just seems that with the headlight in is it really doing anything for you? i would love to see some numbers on a dyno without a CAI and with one(but with the hood closed and headlight(s) in).

however the thrasher does look nice. Is that thrashers own filter or do they use k&n?

K&N

See if this helps any.

http://www.zzperformance.com/zzp/inf...ns_airflow.htm

The main thing about any of the CAI on the market is not what air they draw in but the air they keep out. They are all designed to minimize the amount of hot air being sucked in.

Re: aftermarket mods/void fac. wrnty??

Also you can check http://easyperformance.com/ under thec info look for CAI Design Primer. There you will see what the K&N and similar will do for you, why you want cold air flowing in and even when using bend tubbing. Is basically the same information Ripn12s present on the link he post but this one has matematical equations to explain their thing

Tom, regarding the install, I'm no mechanic either, so I'm hesitant to install anything on my car as well, but when it comes to cold air intakes, it's really not that difficult. As long as the instructions are good, and you READ THEM, you really can't screw anything up. Like someone said earlier, it only takes about 2 hours.
