i need help

hello to all..as u may notice i'm pretty new to this forum..but i need your advice on the problem i have with my car..it's an 89 grand prix 2.8 engine..with auto tranny..when it's cold outside..the tranny doesn't want to shift into second gear..so i'm stuck to drive around 5-10 min in first gear obviously not going very fast...as soon as it warms up ( i guess) it shifts perfectly fine..i checked the fluid level ...it's been changed not too long ago and it's at max level...do u have nay ideas suggestions? or of how to warm up my tranny?..i always warm up my engine in the morning..or whenever the car sat for a long period..i must say here in canada the temperature is pretty low overnight in winter times..last night -27 Celsius..i'm waiting for your ideas..thx in advance..

Re: i need help

okay sounds like clutch stuck or something similar to that but that is pretty damn cold though thats
-80 degrees fahrenheit and I don't know the freezing point of tranny fluid, but I would say thats pretty close.

hello,
i wouldnt suggest warming your car in neutral, your e-brake might not work. instead try a product called MOA trans conditioner it helps in extreme cold and heat, and if anything it will help your bands in the trans from wearing out as fast. you might want to have the filter and fluid changed again they might not have changed the filter.

Re: i need help

I've heard of similiar conditions that had to do with a transmission solenoid. These were on newer grand prix transmissions but it may relate to your problem. I'd call your local gm dealer to see if they have any TSB's for that model year\transmission. You may be able to look something up on it on the nhtsa site.
