water pump housing and heater core

I have a 95 aurora that has two broken teeth on the water pump housing, and was wondering if anyone has changed a water pump housing or if any special tools were required to do this. The heater core is also out. Is this a big task or very expensive. Any input or advice would greatly be appreciated.

Re: water pump housing and heater core

Yes you have to buy a special tool to change the water pump and normally the heater core is a big job to replace requires taking apart alot of the dash if I remember right. You can get the tool for removing the water pump off of ebay, I think it is about $40-50. You can do them yourself but I would get a repair manual too off of ebay it will help alot. Hope that helps.

Re: water pump housing and heater core

I changed the heater core and man it was a b**ch. I had to remove all of the lower center console section under the dash, contort myself and remove all of the housing underneath the dash. THEN go to the engine compartment, remove the coil pack along with the plug wires, remove all the firewall accessories just so I could get down to remove the hoses (ps the claps are crap, replace them). Then put it all back together. Definitely get the manual. It will help. Took almost a day and a half to complete but I did save myself about $500.
