i hope someone can help.
Is it normal for the vents not to blow any air during freezing temperatures sometimes? I have a 98' Taurus & ive in NYC. It's been below freezing for the past 2 weeks. My heat was working fine up until 2 days ago . I turned it on and I heard the usual noise it makes but no air was blowing out of the vents at all. Could it be that something under the hood froze maybe from ice getting in there because lo and behold the wiper fluid isn't spurting out of the little holes either. But my rear defogger works. The strangest things always happen to my car. *p.s., I also had the same heater core problems as many of you seemed to have until I got it flushed and the water pump replaced. |

Re: Heater not blowing air at ALL!
No it's not normal... but strange things happen to cars when temps drop to zero and/or below freezing. I hate to ask these questions cause I don't want to insult anyone's intelligence, but are you sure your anti-freeze is at the correct level and proper mix... usually 50/50 etc.....

Thank you so much for replying. No worries, you didn't insult me. Most women I know have no clue about this stuff nor do they care. I just happen to take an interest and sometimes like to do things myself. I actually just bought some antifreeze today and put some in. I will check tomorrow if I need some more. But shouldn't I not mix 50/50 in cold weather? Someone told me that and it stuck in my mind.

Is the climate control electronic or mechanical? Sometimes the electronic one, the vacuum system that opens the doors to let the hot air in gets jammed.

not to sound ignorant, but how do I found out if my climate control is electronic or not?

I have a mecahanical one. Thanks for trying to help. I took it to my mechanic today and turns out it was the fan blower/motor. Need a new one and a new switch. Another $200! I'm convinced that my car is just in complete shock from being in the desert for 5 years and then transported to this wonderful below zero weather of NYC. |
