Westers does custom tuning. It's a setup similar to ls1edit. These programs are much more expensive, but the effects far exceed those of over the counter programmers(hypertech, superchips, jet). The best tuning that can be done on these trucks is with ls1edit or from a comany known as Nelson Performance Tuning. They do the best tuning that money can buy.

Nelson performance seems to be the same thing a westers chip. they program your truck to the mods toy have. do you have any information on LS1edit?

The only reason is that I'm o a college budget and I got a great deal on the Superchips. I am holding out for a custom tune. When I get my cam installed, then I'm gonna throw out the extra cash.I wouldn't suggest ls1edit to anyone new to tuning. It is an extremely expensive and complicated program and you also have to have a laptop computer to install it with.

I'll ask some of my friends what a good Nelson tune goes for and let you know. I have learned so much about these trucks mainly from research, trial and error, and some very smart friends. You wouldn't believe how much these guys know about these trucks. About two years ago, I didn't know anything about these trucks, but I met up with some guys that had their 5.3s in the 11s and 12s. These guys could answer any question I ever threw at them, and I picked up just about everthing I could ever imagine. So, if anybody has any questions, just keep them coming. If I can't help, I've got the resources to find out. I'm just glad I can be of help. My next project this summer is to put either a 6.0L or a Ls1 out of a transam. That's what is great about these trucks. All you need is the block, all the accesories will bolt right up, and with a tune, my little single cab stepside would be unstoppable.

I did some research on the cost of a Nelson Tune, but it seems as though Allen wants to keep the communication on a personal level. He uses the ls1edit program. I did get a price for the westers custom tune, which uses the same program as Nelson. It goes for around $430-$450. This is a little bit more than the handheld units, but like I've said in previous post, its far superior to anyone you can buy. Most every guy that gets the custom tune started off with a handheld, and they literally couldn't believe the difference it makes. There are a few processes that you have to go through to get the tune. If you want the best bang for the buck handheld, most guys would say to go with the Predator programmer. It will do all of what other handhelds will, and it also has a built it diagnostics program for checking out problem codes, such as service engine soon lights and other problems that might come up. This is always something that is useful to have, instead of having to go to the Gm dealership to get it done.

coolest thing about westers is that if you mod your truck at some future date, your not stuck with the old. Support is topnotch.

If you buy a custom tune from Nelson performance, they will update the program if you get any future mods for free. The 99-00 programming is $375, the 01-02 is $425, and the 03-04 is $490. From what I understand, they send you another pcm that has been tuned, and when you get it, you send in your core. That way there is no down time. If I don't go edit, these are the guys I'm going with for sure.
