Re: whats the best short shift kit

I heard a lot of good things about the b&m model. The other cheap ones like obx and such are just that, cheap.. You get what you pay for.. I read a lot of good reviews on b&m and only very poor ones about the others. But i don't have any experience with any as I am still in the research part.

Re: whats the best short shift kit

B&M short shifters are great, they reduce throw by 35% and i have no complaints with them.

Re: whats the best short shift kit

B&M has two settings on it: 35% redu. and 50%. Go with the B&M.

Re: whats the best short shift kit

Hey 97dsmeclipse, that is just what I read on reviews. Like I said, I have no personal experience with any at this point, still researching.. I just read that they feel sloppy (obx and a few others maybe apex).. I also read that b&m's are hard to put into first gear, but still a great shifter non the less. If I find the link to reviews I will post them.

sorry man wasnt trying to be a dick, just saying i had a b&m and yea it was a pain in 1st and unless you are racing and throw it hard into 4th it will kick it back out. But my new obx shifter is great no problems with it and it doesnt kick it out of 4th

Its not that it feels sloppy its that it is real easy to sifter with and some times feels a little sloppy, because of how smooth it is.

Re: Re: Re: whats the best short shift kit

I got a B&M and i have no big complaints. i ran on 35% for a bit and ended up changing it to 50% because my clutch only takes about an inch of travel to engage, so i want the shortest throw possible. when i downshift, i always tap the gas right after i take it out of gear and that makes downshifting smooth as hell. i'll miss 3rd upshift every once in a while, but i expected that out of it [more like heard about it]. that is my biggest complaint, but it is rare. when i shift properly, there are no problems. it's when i get sloppy that i see issues with the kit [but that's my own lazy ass]. if it doesn't want to go into gear, i'll just tap the gas and it will slip right in. i got this tip from my mechanic, he claims it's the single syncro setup causing it. the B&M setup is highly recomended.

Re: whats the best short shift kit

I have had both. The B&M is the best (for me) its stiffer than the OBX. The OBX was a little to sloppy for me.

Can you tell us maybe if you experience any problems shifting into 1st gear? Just want to hear from someone personally, cause I'm still researching a bit.

But do you also have your OBX? Maybe you'd be willing to sell it if you have it? The other reason I'm unsure of going with b&m is the high price compared to the OBX.

Lastly would you say it's worth it going with OBX vs. just leaving it stock?

I'm just new to manuals in general and don't have much experience driving sticks other than about 1,800 miles on one.

the obx i got is nice and it is 40%- 50% shorter throws then stock, the only problem i have with the obx is that it is to tall so i cut it down. I have no problems going into gears or anything.
