Help
I just bought my 96 Mustang GT. My car when I bought it had 59,986 now it is at 60,062. I test drove it at the dealership and it drove great. The next day I'm driving it the check engine light goes on. So I take it back to the dealership and they look at it and say that they cant find anything wrong with it, so they turned off the check engine light and they said if it comes back on to bring it back to them and they would send it over to the Ford dealership. I drove my car home from the dealership and it was fine. Then I take it out later that night to go to work and about half way to work the check engine light goes back on again. Any idea's as to why the check engine light might be coming on? The car still drives perfectly fine, I dont feel any difference from when the light was off. My sister has a 98 V6 with around 60K miles also. Her check engine light went on about a month ago. So they sent it to the Ford dealership and they said it was something with her spark plugs. She payed $600 to get it fixed because they charged $89 an hour for labor. I'm not sure if they did a 60K mile tune up or if they just replaced the spark plugs or what exactly happended. If something is wrong with my car do you think I should take it to the Ford dealership or to some other place?

Re: Help
There's no way for us of knowing why your check engine light has come on. You will have to have the codes pulled from the computer. That can be done at the dealership, or even most auto parts stores will do it for free. That's the only real way to find out what exactly is wrong.

Re: Help
could be a myriad of issues.
more than likely, a tune up will fix it. If the car is under warranty, take it to a trusted local shop, and bill the dealership.

Re: Help
Took my car back to the dealership and got it back today, it was the purge control valve and a stolinod that had to be replaced and that was what was tripping the check engine light
