Welp I done gone and did it. I blew up the beast today. Well not exactly but she's sick. I was racing a stang down a small strip of road up the street from the house. From the stop sign to the first exit is exactly a quarter mile. I put a whoopin on him so bad I had to stop and give the guy a tissue. He wasn't to sour after he saw what I had, cool guy. Well I got back in my car cranked her up and heard the presession. Unfortunatly I know all to well what bad main bearings sound like. But now I know what bad mains and rod bearing sound like. I got home, pulled the motor took the pan off and sure enough. Two spun rods, and one almost non existant main bearing. My crank is all but ruined and the journals where a sad sight to see. I cried for an hour
..not really.. it was more like throwing tools accross the parking lot and cussing till I couldn't breath. So I now lay to rest the monster 345cid beast I loved so much. Now on to much bigger better things for the 1992RS. I've been building a 383 stroker for about a year now. Havn't gotten her dynod but I think if I bolt her right up to where the old beast once rested, put some beefier enjectors into the TBI and get another chip burned I cringe at the thought of what will come out of her. A sad day, yet a day for new beginnings for my beloved 1992RS. Thanks for listening. you guys are great. |

awww man, sory to hear it 92RS, the 305 of lore is now dead, let us remmber it in song while grouped around the fire drinking mead and eating pretzels
but seriously, sad to see a fine motor like that bite the big one. but does this mean you are moving on from the 305's????? say it aint so

Re: A sad sad day.
No, I'm not moving on from the 305's, but the 383 will be in the my baby tomorrow. I'm gonna take all salvageable parts from the motor in the morning. I've got another 305 wating for a bore job. My pistons and rods are ok. My crank is shot, I don't think it can be turned. But I can get another 400 crank. I'm going to take my time though. I'm giong for 500+hp. You ever heard of the Holley 900cfm four barrel TBI?? Yeah, I'm gonna do it good this time. I'm gonna try to spin it 10K on the tach. I'll probably spend 10 years on this one..LOL

Re: A sad sad day.
isn't that 4bbl TBI specific for holley's stand alone tbi system? are you scrapping the ECM for this one?

Re: A sad sad day.
Well if I can't get my buddies at dynotech to burn me a chip for it, then I'll call hypertech, if they can't then I'll call holley, if they tell me to get lost then I'm going completly outragouse and get a dual quad intake bolt two 670 TBI's on it splice the harness to the TBI's in parallel to each other so all the voltages are the same, and they should work exactly the same together like a perfectly tuned dual quad. But that's the last resort.

Re: A sad sad day.
geeze 92RS, you crazy man. a 10k 305?? and a cuztom dual quad TBI system spliced from an original harness???? ballsy, but then again, very very fucking cool. i never would have thought of that. im interested in how it turns out.

Re: A sad sad day.
It would actualy be a dual duece TBI sitting on a dual quad intake, but yeah it's kinda scarry sounding. The only thing is, that's a lot of fuel, I'll have to worry about vapor lock. But if I can spin it up that high it shouldn't be a problem. Thinking about it though I don't think I should splice the original harness. I'd have to set up some kind of vacume triger or something for the second tbi to kick in at high rpm so not to drown my engine. I don't know..it's still in the noodle phase. As for the 383 I dropped in today....very nice. I miss my 305 a little less. But it still hurts.. I e-mailed holley today to see if I could use the commander 900cfm four barrel TBI with my harness if I got a chip for it. Waiting on them to get back with me so for now I've got a holley 750 double pumper feeding her. I had to put in an adjustable fuel pressure regulator, I've got her up to 9psi right now and she's snarling. I hope I don't bog out my fuel pump. But the 383 absolutly loves my ram air and exhaust. I had to fork out 200 bucks for an ignition system since mine was computer controlled. But I can surerly tell a huge difference in performance. I scared myself today.

Re: A sad sad day.
How I scared myself huh? Well I was going down the Highway at like 65 in 5th, eased into 4rth and she growled like a rabbid dog and I got a hard on. So dropped the stick. Put the clutch in hit the gas slammed her to 3rd dumped the clutch and fish tailed. Mind you by the time I dumped the clutch I was doing almost 70. It wasn't a huge fish tail, but you could feel the ass end get loose. Remember I've been building this thing for 11 months now.
1995 cast 5.7 out of a Z71 2 bolt main bored .030 over, kieth black flat top pistons, federal mogaul 5.7 rods, scat 383 crank http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eB...category=33616 pretty much what I got, Clevite77 Race Proven Bearings both rod and main, federal mogul cam bearings, custom ground cam with 224 durration 572/600 lift, original heads port and pollished to match edelbrock victor intake, double springs, holley 750 dp, and some other go fast goodies. it's sweet. |
