I have a 1997 S-10 Blazer all-wheel drive. 93000 miles. No tranny or transfer case problems. Runs great. When parking on an incline the vehicle slowly rolls out of its spot. This happens going forward and backward. I can't push it out, it just does it slowly over a period of hours. Brakes were just done prior to this problem. I checked them and things look good. No parking brake though, cable broke awhile ago. Is this a tranny or axle problem? All fluids are topped off and look normal. No leaks anywhere. Its an otherwise perfect car.

Re: 97 Blazer wont stay in park!
check the shifter cable where it attatches to the tranny. you'll probably find that one of the plastic ears on the cable is missing or the clip holding it in place is missing or the cable is out of adjustment. if the cable is good and properly adjusted you most likely have an internal tranny problem.

Clip and cabel are ok. So if it is the tranny what would be the part that is bad?

does it make any grinding sounds when it rolls away? try popping the cable off at the tranny and manually shifting it through the gears then push it up to park and see if it holds. i'm hoping the cable is screwed up somewhere, it might be loose up at the column. if it is at the tranny it would be something to do with the park pawl not engaging.

check your body mount under the cab on the drivers side floor (under your left foot)it may have broke or settled down one sign of this is the uneven gap between the fender & the door i've seen a number of the older blazers rot and the cab settle so far they even loose reverse.here in nova scotia ca they use salt on the roads in winter and its not uncommon for a 3 or 4 year old car to have rust holes. good luck jj.
