Engine tempature

Ok..need to verify something....and maybe I am just being overly cautious here. I noticed recently that my temp gauge will go from below Cold to just under the mid point of the gauge in about 2-3 miles of driving. Is this normal on a 90 accord coupe....??

gosh....amazing that the engine gets that hot that quickly....well at least I have nothing to worry about....
