Questions about 85 300zx
I got an 85 300zx a month or two ago and want some input. First, I like to go fast, and love this car. The thing cost $900 because it needed a little TLC on the interior and such but it's cheap to do and I don't know that I will have it very long - Looking at getting a z32.... 90 or 91 TT. Anyway, my question revolves around the engine.
How much power does a stock 85 non turbo put out, and what modifications can I make in the horse power area before I have to replace drive train parts? Also, is it easier to add a turbo or get a factory turbo engine and drop it in? Anyone ever tried to TT an 85? Any help information would be great. I must say, I never really like imports until I ran into the Z cars, this little car will take the abuse I can deal out and even surprise me at times.... it just needs a little more zip. Thanks again, Casper |

I also have a minor issue. The car runs and idles fine, but it will stumble or miss some times around 1500 to 2500 rpms coming down from 4000 or higher. It's weird and hard to figure out, I can't tell if it's a fuel issue or air issue because I have very little experiance with Z's. My first instinct when it happened at low end was injecters, so I ran cleaner and such and it seemed a bit better, but it may have just been the octane boost the cleaner added. At this point I lost faith in the plugs so I changed them and the wires, ran better but still had the issue. Next thought was the PCV valve so I changed it, didn't fix it. Now I'm contemplating the distributer cap, or coil. Before I keep changing pieces I was curious if anyone could give me some ways to trouble shoot this car better then guess and check
