Bigger pain in the @$$ and harder on the ca$h??

Which is a bigger pain in the @$$ and harder on the ca$h. A LT1 drop or 400 carb fed small block into a '96 5sp with a 3800 V6 and 3.73 rear end??

Re: Bigger pain in the @$$ and harder on the ca$h??

opps forgot to mention, i want it to be a sleeper that'll make me some cash on sundays at the track, so exterior performance mods are out of the question. Also what does it take to make the LT1 into a 383? and is it worth the dough if the LT1 is in fact the better choice??

wow lol keep thinking of other stuff to ask along with it. What is necessary in order to keep the AC, and as far as computer changing. The maro is the bottom dollar coupe with the nice alloy wheels, perfect to prey on cocky rice burners. I wanna make a car that looks slo... GO....

Yeah, scrap the LT1 idea. Go with the LS1. To make a 383 you need to bore it 30 over and put in a 400 crank. But being that the LS1 isn't a 350 it won't be quite a 383 but you get the point. Most LS1's you get off of ebay come with computers so it's not a problem there, and you can get a chip or a reprogramer that would work great.

Re: Bigger pain in the @$$ and harder on the ca$h??

ummmmm 400 crank only works in a gen I and gen II small block, aka, the standard small block and LT1, it wont fit in the LS1, however there are stroker cranks available from lunati and scat for that application. the LS1 comes out to 382cid. obviously because the LT1 was originally available in that chassis, it would be easyer, and cheaper. but the LS1 is a sweet idea. the difference between the 400 and the LT1 is the reverse flow cooling, so youd have to custom fab a cooling system from a radiator to hoses and all that for the old school small block. the LT1 would be pretty easy to do with a parts doner car from the junkyard. as far as computers, im pretty sure the 6er and the V8 have the same computer, different chip. so get the chip from a V8 equipped car. although if its gonna be a suped up hotrod, then you need a custom chip anyway, so just order one. as far as prices, cant really help ya, im too old school for all this new crap

Re: Bigger pain in the @$$ and harder on the ca$h??

Thanks for the help, I also got this really cool idea that has absolutely nothing to do with the motor aspect. If any of you are familiar with ski and large pleasure boats, then you've probably heard of a thing called "captain's choice" it is where the driver has the option to change the exhaust flow at the flip of a switch through either a quiet muffler or in most cases straight out of the headders. do you think this would be a good experiment?? boy you could sure screw w/ the pigs. lol

Mr. Gasket Exhaust Cut-Out

There fun @ first. I used them on my Vette. Big down side is they dont seal well. Plus the cable will hang up over time

Your idea of the flip of the switch "captains choice" idea for your car has already been taken by a company called QTP (quick time performance). It is an electronically controlled exhaust cut out that works by the flip of a switch. www.quicktimeperformance.com also if your have the lastest issue of Chevy High Performance its shown on page 82.
