axle replacement?

my CV joints sound like they are in need of replacement soon. How big of a job is it to do this on a 94 civic DX out in the driveway with basic hand tools?

Re: axle replacement?

If you are mechanicaly inclined you should be able to do it in a couple of hours at the most. If not it's still a prety simple job just take it slow. Don't just replace the cv's though. Do the whole axle. The extra $10 is worth the time it will save you. Good luck.

Re: axle replacement?

yeah get the whole axle... it is not a bad job to do at all and if you get it from like autozone or soemthing they will give you a core refund on the old one you take out... change it and you are good to go, I would say a couple hours tops

i did not know they even made cv joints by themselves anymore! wow.

i'm going to attempt it myself I think. hopefully my existing joints can hold out another 5-10K for warm weather to show up.

Ok that's for a hatch, but shouldn't be that much difference.

Quote from that website

"All this could be done in under 2 hours as long as there are no problems but if you do it like I said and use the right tools it's no big deal.

*I got both axles out in about 45 minutes while doing my engine swap and I never took off the radius rods, so that is one less step you have to do, but if you can't shimmy them out than you can take out the radius rods."
