eekk!! low idle!!

ok so lately my car idles VERY low when I first start it up... like 100rpms in neutral... no not 1000 but 100, if that, and around 150-200rpms in gear... and it doesn't even shoot up to 3k at first like it did... then it used to drop to like 1.2k then down in like 400-700 range... it doesn't start very well sometimes either, and sometimes I have to turn it over like 10-15 times before it will start... I was thinking I need new wires and plugs probably when I started having trouble starting it, but now with the low idle I'm wondering if something else could be wrong too?? the car is still somewhat new to me so I don't know what maintenance is up or anything so someone give me a tip please

Re: eekk!! low idle!!

Start w/ the plugs and wires. Probably a fuel filter too would not hurt. Keeping my fingers crossed for you.

Those are signs of either low compression or the need of a tune up real bad.

There is a screw on top of your intake manifold its covered w/ a rubber or plastic cap that is your idle control. I thought I would tell you just in case you need to adjust it.

ok I figured out I have cold plugs... which is not supposed to be good for a normal daily driven car right? so would getting hot plugs fix the problem of the car not starting well and idling low? don't know why I didn't think of this before but seems like the right idea to me...

and would there be any advantage in using the fuel filter from the FD... just thought I'd ask

Re: eekk!! low idle!!

FD Fuel Filter will not fit - Just use a good OEM Mazda FC Filter.

Colder plugs are known for fouling really easy in city driving applications and are known for poor idle and hard cold starts. Good thinking I did not think of that.
