infinity sound system questions

hey everyone, i'm new to this board and to DSMs! i just got me a 98 gs-t fully loaded with 47K miles. so forgive me if i come on here with questions that might be dumb. i was a honda crx guru, but decided to try my hand at modifying turbo DSMs.

anyway, my question is this...i have the infinity system in my car. it sounds like the speakers aren't connected to the amp underneath the passenger seat. they turn on, but sound like shit. however, the harness is connected. anyone ever have this problem, or any ideas on how i can test it to see if the speakers are still connected? i know that if i pull the stereo out, i'll need a code to get the stereo to turn back on. i'm trying to avoid that. any help would be appreciated.

thanks!
ryan

did you ever think that your speakers could just be blown? i mean if there is noise coming out of them, that is coming from your deck then obviously they are hooked up, the speakers wouldnt sound like shit even if they were hooded up backwards! id look into some new speakers! good luck

i work in install at a best buy and i see this kinda stuff all the time, the odds are the speaker(s) are either blown or your amp has gone bad. the rear channels might have gone bad or just one might have gone bad on it. the infinity system is in many mitsu's and other chrysler byproducts and they cant ever get their shit together. the best thing for you to do is just to take out the whole infinity system and get started on a new sound system. if you have any more questions let me know

Re: infinity sound system questions

anyone know of any brackets for the door speakers?

i went out today and got some speakers to replace them, and they don't fit.

they're 6.5", but the mounting holes are about 1-2cm too short.

or maybe someone has the factory ones that aren't torn to sell? nothing on dsmtrader.com
i'd rather be wasting time and money on go-fast parts right now and worry about the sound system later.

i ran into the same problem when i replaced my speakers, you can do one of two things: 1. i work at best buy and i know we have speaker brackets that should fit and allow you to mount the new speakers, or the better route is the way i went. i actually made custom holes in the door for the tweeters and installed component speakers in my doors, sounds awesome but as far as the speaker mounting goes you should be able to simply mount the speaker with some self-tapping screws for sheet metal, etc. however if the hole for the speaker itself is not big enough then im afraid youll have to go with the brakets still. hope this helps

Re: infinity sound system questions

ya, replacing the speakers isn't that hard. i got eclipse pointsource up front and i had to use the self taping screws. not that big a deal... you can start looking for speakers here:

http://search.ebay.com/search/search....5%22+speakers

but for the best deal, go to best buy [or any other place] and get you speakers with an extended waranty so if you break them you get them replaced for free...
