Make it easy, get off easy
Alright, today I was cruising on the backroads and I turn on a nice wide paved road, and it starts heading downhill and it starts to turn again. I'm in my mothers CR-V (hate automatic trans) and so I start speeding up. Going around 60 in a 45. I see a cop just around the turn a bit down the straitaway, so I slow down a little late and say, you know what... im busted, so why not make it easy? I know im busted, and I know he knows... So I aproach the cop car, and he turns on his car, expecting to have to pull out and flash his lights. I slow down and park in front of him. So he gets out of his car with his pad, and we talk the usual police talk...
"Do you know how fast you were going?" I say: "About 60" "May I see your drivers liscense?" "What is your name?" I say: "Sam" So he walks back to his police car. And so I wait a minute or two... "Ok, I clocked you at 61... since you were being honest, and pulled over without me having to flash my lights, I'm going to let you off with a warning." And that was that! I have speeded many times, and I was actually waiting to recieve my first ticket. But I didn't so I have to wait for another day. (Mother was in the car having a heart attack. I was enjoying it.) I wonder what kind of setup they carry? I was going to ask the officer, but I decided to get outa there before he changed his mind. I mean, cop cars are good sleepers! They gota have some bootay to chase someone! |

I was thinking about it, and If I had my manual trans... I wouldn't have been pulled over anyways, because all I had to do was let off the gas, not break like an idiot! Damn auto got me pulled over.
I guess it depends on what gear I was in. 3rd gear, and I woulda slowed down without breaks and just pass and be on my business. Oh well.

Re: Make it easy, get off easy
Police interceptors are basically stock as far as horsepower goes. The only modifications are to the suspension, and electronics. I think they get about another 5 hp and new transmission software that haelps the tranny last longer. Weak hp, and horrible areodynamics = not very fast. On the other hand they can do 135mph all day long and not break down so...
DoubleTap PS that goes for Crown Vics, Impalas and Z28s. The Z's are the fastest and I think they pull about a 14.5 in the quarter mile |

This isn't race related or a racing story just so you are aware.
![]() To my understanding the Crown Vics come with hopped up 4.6L motors with dual exhaust option and put out around 215hp I believe, or whatever Mustang GT's lay down. If you ever see Camero intercepters (CHP has MANY of these) they come equipped (as a CHP officer driving one once told me) with Corvette LT1 motors that put out at least 300hp and are good for a quick 165mph top speed and can do the quarter in like the 13-14 second range. Basically unless you have a Ferrari, Porsche or some other supercar exotic, you won't be able to outrun one of them. PD's that use Impalas also run LT1 motors if I'm not mistaken as well.

Re: Make it easy, get off easy
i was recently arrested at Miami (of Ohio) University for 'underage possession of alcohol" (fuckin bullshit, another story though). anyway, while sitting drunk in the back seat of a cruiser, handcuffed, cramped, you get the picture...i had the audacity #1 to ask the officer to change the radio station (which he ended up doing), from country...then #2 ask him if 'his damn cruiser was fast'...
it was a crown vic and he said that it had the ford 350 in it with the interceptor package and around 300hp (may have been bullshiting, but i wasnt about to call him out). he also said that he had seen 150mph several times in that cruiser, but that the oil needed changed. i then proceeded to ask him to show me how much power it had and he then told me to shutup...yes i am obnoxious...

Re: Make it easy, get off easy
a friend of mine actually has a decommissioned interceptor crown vic that he bought for his parents, and that thing is pretty lively. with 4 people in the car on the way up to jasper, ga on I-75 it would still cruise at 135 easy. pretty nice car.

Crown Vic Interceptors have: 1.Heavy duty frame, body mounts, front and rear springs 2.Oil cooler for power steering, transmission 3.Heavy duty rubber floor covering 4.Heavy duty springs (Front and Rear) OPTIONAL: 1.Radio suppression package 2.Police street appearance package 3.Comfort and convenience group. That's it. Oh, Crown Vic LX sport has 239hp, and 287 lb of torque, and weighs in at 3964lbs. I think this is the basis of most Interceptors. Not too sure though, because it has floor mounted shifter which I've only seen in Z28s. Thanks Nobu

Re: Make it easy, get off easy
LT1 Z28's were used, which had approx. 305hp., similar to the SS's in 96 and 97. They were called B4C's and were basically a debadged Z28. They looked like a 6 cylinder except for the exhaust tips.
Nowadays, police Z28's and T/A's are equipped with LS1's with around 345hp. They can run the 1/4 mile in about 13 seconds flat... This is all assuming that the officers who drive them have left them in their stock form. I know a cop that drives one, and he has actually toyed with it quite a bit. Even with my nitrous I'd think twice before trying to outrun that guys car...

yeah the crown vics interceptors that we have at work are slightly hopped up 4.6 L engines. the engine itself isn't that different but it has better exhaust and intake system to let her breath easier, and i don't think there are any govenors of any kind on them. The one lt. here said he had one up around 145 but she was struggling past 120. He also told me that he had one of the camaro interceptors up to 150 easily and he was starting to get nervous so he got off the gas. Now the older chevy interceptors we had, had the LT1 engine and let me tell you those engines could scream, they felt like they had much more power than the crown vics. I know it doesn't really mean shit but under the hood all the hoses were those braided stainless steal lines with those blue and maroon fittings like you see on race cars, they looked pretty nice. ( horribly worded statement but you know what i mean).
Honestly though I think the best cop car we have is the chevy blazer ![]() ![]() Oh yeah by the way every single crown vics leaks water from around the light bar into the interior of the car when they are washed or it rains hard (pieces of....)

I dunno about where yall live, but down here in the great state of Texas, our police have hopped up lt1's or ls1's, i get those two messed up, they also have all the other mods like suspensions and heavy duty stuff but they also have a fixed up tranny, a much better one, most of them are topped out at 150 but some officers take the govenor off. and the z28's for the Highway patrol have the corvette tranny and motor, they are pretty damn fast. but they sit up a little higher than a stock Z28, not by much though, so they can cross the median easier.

I believe that a few places out west use porsches??? I've seen pictures of them on those long straight roads in like arizona or something where the speed limit is ridiculous.

I know we have a green and a purple debadged Z28 which I think both use the LS1. Fairfax has a really cool Z28 LS1 cop car with the navy blue and white paintjob all the ordinary Fairfax county cop cars have. Looks badass. For those of you who race on the street, never attempt to race a Camaro that doesn't have a Z28 or SS badge on the side of it unless you hear a really loud aftermarket exhaust. You never know which one of those is a cop.

Well i think you should say.... Dont attempt to race anything that could possibly look like a cop car lol. yea some places use the corvette, at DFW Airport, they use the corvette for chasin down drug smugglers and what not, and they hall balls!!! ive even heard they are Z06's but im sure on that. Our budget prolly isnt as good as some other states is why our DPS only use Z28's but i gaurrenty (sp) they are not stock. and as for arizona, i dunno what they use, a friend of mine is from there and says they use regular crown vics and cameros. Ive also heard that in some places, like bev hills and other rich places they use porches, lambos and other bad ass cars, but i dunno if that is true. and all of our state troopers are in black and white cars, or trucks hehe, we have ford and dogde state trooper trucks...they also haul ass, but i dunno what they have done to them.
