Progress: '84 Nissan Fairlady Z 300ZX 2 seater.
Here is my next/latest project. It is made by Tamiya and is in 1:24 scale. The paint job will be a 2 tone, gloss alluminium on the top half and gun metal on the bottom half. The bumpers and rub strips will be semi gloss black and the interior will be 2 shades of grey.
The quality of this kit was quite poor in my opinion, where the body is concerned. The molding was totally out of line on the rear bumper, so extensive filing was needed and on the bonnet there was a big sink hole which i had to fill. ![]() ![]() The wheels in the picture will not be used. I will be using 350Z wheels, maybe painted matt black. ![]() I am toying with the idea of using this rear wing. Please can i have you opinions on this. What do you think about it? ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Comments most welcome. Thanks for looking.

I like the wing on the back, it should make for an interesting build. I noticed the box is tamiya and that there is an undersurface representing the engine, so why did you cut the hood off or was it already off?

The wing looks killer on the back.

cool build, this is one of my favorite looks of the z cars. I almost bought one when i turned 16 but it was wrecked before i could get my hands on it.
hurry up and show us what the motor looks like, i've never seen this model before. |

Looking good matt. I'd wouldnt hesitate on using that wing, will make all the difference at the end of the day. Good luck with it.

Thanks Mike. I think i will go with the wing. Those wheels are going to look so right on it i think.

A little update
Here are the bits so far.
I have painted the whole body with Tamiya gloss alluminium and tomorrow i will paint the bottom half with Tamiya gun metal. The under coat was Tamiya flat white. They had no primer in the shop. Now they do, so i will get that next time. ![]() I have painted the underside of the car with semi gloss black and highlighted some details with a flat alluminium enamel. ![]() And i have started the engine bayby painting the block flat alluminium and the cam covers flat red. ![]() I'm not sure about the wheels now. If i don't get them by tomorrow i will probably use the original wheels that came with the kit. The modifications i will no doubt need to do for the 350Z wheels are holding me up a bit, and i want to get crackin'. Please give me your comments and suggestions.

Looking good, I say leave it wingless and one color making it look more modern.
