Question

No car is perfect. It's all about balance. A good street car may be bad at the track. Conversely, an excellent track car may be an absolute bitch on the street! The GTR is far from perfect. My personal opinions on its best and worst attributes are as follows.

Worst:

It's weight. It is a 1600 kgm behemoth! That's why a stock GTR will be eaten up by a stock Impreza/Evo or RX7. Only the Supras are heavier than the GTR. The weight also causes another problem. Oversteer! During hard cornering, the GTR will first understeer (this is quite fun really!) and then oversteer as you exit the corner and apply some power. Apply more power and the GTR would go lateral!! So the GTR has to be taken slowwwwly out of a corner! That sucks! The so called hi-tech thingy in the GTR will only transfer the torque to the front tyres when the GTR is ALREADY travelling laterally. Thus it is TOO late. The Evo's 4wd is definitely better in this respect. Floor the hammer out of acorner and the torque is instantly delivered to all 4 wheels. Absolutely marvelous.

Best:

The In line 6 engine. Best in the world. Linear power. Excellent torque from 2000-8000 rpm. Anytime anyday! Although the Imprezas/Evos/RX 7s leave the GTR in a sprint, it will just be a short while before the linear power of the in line 6 will show what power is all about. During 2nd to 3rd upshift, the GTR will catch up. 8000 rpm later, the GTR will be flying at 170kph and in anotherv 5 seconfds or so the GTR will do 240kph in 4th! The Imprezas and it's relatives would then recoil in despair!! Coupled that with an almost endless possibilities of modding without breaking the original block, the RB 26 DETT must be the best engine in the world! Heard the latest news? Apex'i had just broken a record. They built a GTR to 1100 hp!!

Tell me your opinions.

R32, R33, and R34 GTR; V-Spec/V-Spec 2 (unmoded)

Worst: The mods that can be done. You could never freaking deside!!!!!!!!! AHHHHHHH!!!!!!!

Best: Excellent use of turbos and 4WD. Can be compaired to Porsches 911 Turbo. In use of turbos and 4WD. The smaller power/weight ratio keeps it from being on the same level though. But hey, thats why you don't leave your GTR stock.

(I have my reasons for only choosing GTRs R32-R34 so DON'T ASK )

r33 do you/have you ever actually owned a gtr?
i do (r33) and you are wrong about the cornering bit.
you can apply increasing power once the car is sideways because the front wheels are also driving at this point and are literally pulling the car out of the corner/slide. The 4 wheel setup has been patented by nissan because it works so well. The aim is to have the car sideways coming out of the corner because undeersteer is not then a factor and 4 wheels driving out of the corner is the fastest way! the current porsche 911 turbo uses a very simillar system. you are right about the evo 6 system it too is very good, because of the yaw control, this will even brake an inside front wheel to assist turn in. the evo7 goes even further by separating drive between all wheels during cornering to where it can be best used.

You forgot the Mitsubishi GTO, it's even heavier than GT-R.
Also, there are GT-Rs with over 1300hp, so 1100hp is not a record in anyway.

Well Adam, if my current car is not a GTR R33, I don't know what it is! It really looks like a GTR R33 to me!

I don't know about your car but my car is an absolute bitch when it comes to hard cornering at the track! First it understeers (this as I sais is fun), then it goes sideways, apply the power, wait half a second, then the torque comes to the front, by which time the car is ready to spin and in fact already spinning! I don't know, perhaps I drive like my grandmother. But on normal street driving, I could take any corner without any problem. I think the torque split works well on the street but on the track it needs to be more responsive and quick like the ones on the Evos.

Igor, yes, the GTO is heavier than the GTR. Thanks for reminding me:sun:

r33 what speed/gear is the understeer happening at?
On the track mine would only understeer in very slow corners ie. slow 2nd gear corners only. Maybe there is something wrong with a G sensor or something in yours? You say that understeer is fun, do you like oversteer? Nothing brings a smile to my face like coming out of a corner sideways.:flash: mine never feels like it is going to spin and i have never spun it on road or track. Close once on the road but it was me wimping out before the car was any where near its limits. are your tyres good ones?
regards adam

Yap, mine will also only understeer than oversteer at slow corners. If you have seen the Sepang F1 track, the slow corners where this will happen are at the S bend after the start/finish line and the 2 hair pin leading to the twin straights. They are slow corners - 2nd gear at about 65 kph.
I checked my G sensor and it's ok. My tyres are ok - B'stone S02 265/35/18. Anyway I am now installing a HKS Electronic Torque Split Controller to override the stock G sensor. Hopefully it would be better:flash:

I love the understeer as it could be easily controlled. The oversteer which results in the car coming out sideways is fun too. But when it becomes a power oversteer before the torque is pushed to the front, well, that's hairy! I'd spun once before and looking at the tyre barrier coming closer to the car is not fun!!

BTW, is your car V-Spec? Love the colour. Look at mine in "Who own a GTR" and tell me what you think.
Regards.

Adam, I'd tried posting pictures before and I failed But no harm in trying again. So here we go.... [img]http://photos.yahoo.com/mlevinsen/jpg/[img]

If the picture does not appear, please go to http://photos.yahoo.com/mlevinsen to view it.

Well, I'd since ditched the JUN Ecu and replaced it with HKS F Con V. The intercooler is now HKS GT i'cooler. Want to buy my JUN Ecu....cheap cheap. It's good for about 380whp on my car. I think it would perform better in the Oz because of its wheather.

Cool

Guys and Gals (are there any of them here?), I found this cool site which tells you some news on the UK cars etc. But what makes it special is the section where it teaches us how to take corners, braking technique, countering under or oversteer etc. Really enlightening... Go to www.circuitdriver.com for all of these. And it's free

Racer, that was the old Trust pipe. Now I use Super Drager - same size anyway:smoker2: I believe the bigger the pipe, the easier it farts, the faster it goes.... The front is now changed as well. The stock 'cooler is changed and the number plate is removed. I use sticker type numbering under the right head light. Don't know whether that's legal or not
