Cold running engine on 1994 Astro

Ever since I had my cooling system flushed, the 1994 Astro as been running much cooler. Good, except now that it's winter in Wyoming, it's running too cool. The bars on the temperature gauge only register 3 bars, (electronic dash), most of the time, even on the highway. I thought the gauge was faulty, but no, it's not producing much heat in the heater. Result, cold driver and passengers. This van used to have a heater that could keep us warm in the coldest Wyoming winters. Anyone have any ideas about how to get some heat? T.I.A.

Re: Cold running engine on 1994 Astro

Sounds like someone did not re-install the thermostat or put in too cold of one to me.

It should have a 195*F thermostat.

Re: Cold running engine on 1994 Astro

Thermostats built since about 1978 have been designed to fail in the open position. This prevents overheated and damaged engines when one fails. Likely, when you remove the unit, it will be stuck open. Ray

RABarrett,

All of them? I thought only a few select brands were designed that way, such as Robershaw.
