Thermo-Tec intake heat shield???
Anyone know if this thing actually works? It's kind of pricey, but it claims to block out 98% of the radiant engine bay heat from effecting the air in the intake....I understand that with a SRI it is still sucking in air from the engine bay, but I have a '97 Accord in which the filter is pretty far from the engine (as far as most SRI go) and is shielded by the battery...
Basically, does this thing look like a $43 gimmic or does it look like it may actually help keep the intake cool? Here's the link: http://www.jegs.com/cgi-bin/ncommerc...27&prmenbr=361 |

Re: Thermo-Tec intake heat shield???
it seems like it would work, but only to an extent. most intakes are made out of material that doesnt retain or transfer heat to the air inside of it anyways. plus, if the intake is already hot, this is only going to keep hot.
some people actually build heat shields around the filter that cut it off from the rest of the engine, using the hood for a top. those seem like a better investment, as it affects the air that gets sucked in, rather than the air that has already been sucked in. a combination of the two would yield the best results i suppose. if it were me, i would just stick to the heat shield around the intake, though.

Just invest some money into a cold air intake
