battery light, need to find amp??? 92 sho

battery light came on so i went and got a 1000 cold cranking amp battery, didn't do a thing. car runs with the battery termanals off. the chiltons manual says it's the altanator amplifyer, dos not say where the @#*$ part is located. for some reason the 92 SHO was not given a strong enough alt. could this amp be bypast? maybe with the 96 and up 130 HD alt? I have access to a 92 sable for free parts but need to find this amp. help, and thanx. your ford buddy Dan R

Hey.. oh my god no.. lol Take your alt to a place that rebuilds them. The parts inside are cheap, MAYBE $50 total labor included. Did that on mine and its fine. The battery light means there is a problem in the charging system. Never heard of an amplifier in the charging system. never seen it. And this is my 3rd SHO.. anyway let me know what happens, anyone else will want 200 bux plus for an alternator. It's a mitsubishi alternator. =) Only part like it on the car.

Maybe he is talking about the voltage regulator. I bought my alt for about $170 a few years ago. I had my alt "rebuilt" because it was cheaper. The shop did not repair it right and it was in the shop about six times. They said they couldn't find the problem as to why the alt was bad. I bought a new alt and it fixed the prob. I found out later that the voltage regulator was the culprit.

The only thing that should regulate voltage is the brushes, or the size of the winding, or the speed that pulley is spinning at. Who knows but I will research it more, didn't think there was anything like that in there.
