Can anyone help me with selecting a straight exhaust with no cats. Ive searched on ebay for test pipes and not really found anything and I have also looked at Comptech web site but didnt find anything helpful. Any advice, links or helpful information would be greatly appreciated.

Re: "TEST PIPE"
The cat/ test pipe is before the exhaust, it isn't included. Go to ebay and type in "racing cat" or "freeflow cat" for your car. You can get a stainless "test pipe" for like 50$ shipped. You will just get the cat, the exhaust bolts onto the rear of the cat.

i personally do. now on my 93 LS, i have an AEM cold air intake, and a
2 1/4 inch greddy cat back exhaust, with the 2 1/4 inch test pipe. now the test pipe is high flow. no restrictors like the stock cat. when i take the engine up to about 3,500 RPM to 4,000 RPM and shift i hear what sounds like a back fire. but i was told that since there is no restrictors to give the exhaust pressure that the sudden high flow of exhaust and then shifting will cause that to happen. now as far as the torque. i seem to have no prob what so ever with that. my car can deffinately hold its own. i can currently hold it with an S2000 right now. and all i have more is the racing chip with all the other goodies. its pretty much neck and neck for us. i do look foward to kicking his ass some day! but that's what i think. |

and can start rotting out after 2-3 years (like my friends). If you are planning on having your car for a while, I would suggest getting one that would last. |

Re: "TEST PIPE"
They are both illegal, a straight pipe is usually refering to a pipe in place of the muffler and a test pipe is a pipe in place of the cat.
I have a testpipe from www.testpipe.com they are good quailty here is a pic of what I got. However I don't really like it. The power change is not really enough to have to put up with the shitty sound it produces IMO. I only put this on during the spring/summer when I am planning on going to the track. But that is just my opinon.

Re: "TEST PIPE"
Integralover, you say that there is a loud backfire like sound produced from the exhaust with your test pipe. Is it really that bad, like as in annoying? Cause as of right now, i have DC headers and a SRS tailpipe, and thats why i am asking about the striaght through pipes cause i wanna fully trick my exhaust to be less restrictive. If the sound is more of an annoyance, do you think it would be wiser to get a high flow cat, (which is still illegal) to reduce the backfire noise?

its not really like a back fire, more like a pop, or i guess small back fire. hmm. for me, im really picky about the way my car handles, sounds, and performs. it does not happen very often. it really depends how im driving, it happens more when im driving in traffic, but it is not very loud at all. i just could not afford the high flow cat. if i could, i would go for the high flow cat. but hey, $40 was good for me. and i really don't regret it.

Re: "TEST PIPE"
when I put a straight cat on my XSi I lost 30 tq @ 3000 rpms and all. I did increace my 1/8 mile time though, but the torque for daily driving I was mot willin to sacrifice.....
