Questions on 71 Javelin AMX

Hey, my grandfather has a 71 Javein AMX 401 4 barrel that I want to start working on. It has been jus sitting for about 13 years, garaged for about 10 of those years. It curretly is not running. He stopped driving it because he was getting old, had kids, and it used too much gas. He says it will need a lot of money to get it like new but I'm not
sure. He says it will need a battery, coolant, and a carb overhaul or new one. He says if it had a battery it would probably start though.
here are questions I have:

1)What kind of battery does it use
2)What brand carb does it have stock, how much work to clean it, and what kind of aftermarket will fit it
3)What kind of gas should I run in it (my granddad said it usd Sunoco 105 leaded from the pump back in the day but there must be some economical altrnative) and would it run on 93 with lead alterative and octane boost
4)Where can I find parts for it and are they very hard to find

ANY info anyone has would be great. Thanx

Well the battery is like any other car batery. I would suggest the Optima dry cell. They are a little more expensive, but are a much better battery than the rest. The carb, if it is a 4bbl, was a Holley. I would suggest switching to a Road Demon. This can be purchased from Summit or Jeg's and the like. If you have the money I would suggest getting hard seats put in the heads so you can run regular gas. Engine parts are not hard to find as well as tranny parts (being mopar). The body is a totally different story, you will normally only find used. There are some good links at www.amxfiles.com This site is very thorough. Hope this helps and I know it is a little past due.

Re: Questions on 71 Javelin AMX

Good luck with the resto. AMC parts are always hard to find but the restoration is worth the effort.

Carb is a Motorcraft not a holley.

OEM battery was actually a Diehard, I believe,

factory 401s had lower compression than 390s so you should be ok w/93 and lead additive.
