Hi,
Recently I had planned to top up the oil in my 2000 VW Golf GLE and after looking through my manual I have found that it takes VW 500 00 or VW 502 00. My problem is that I have never heard of these as an oil type and was wondering if anyone could possibly translate these to Australian standards? |

I personally use 5w 30 (When its winter). The computers at a Jiffy would say that is the recommended viscosity). However, If I am not mistaken I believe VWs have been known to use 10w 40. I know.. odd two choices seeing how far apart they are. |

Oil to use.
My manual recommends 5-50 oil, which I cannot find anywhere. I think this is because the sell the car everywhere.
5W-30 should be fine for everywhere. |

Re: VW Golf oil question
to boschmann,
with regards to your reply my golf is a 1.3 petrol engine and i would'nt of used anything that would of caused harm as it would cost alot to repair,i treat my car with the greatest respect and 15w-40 has never harmed my car infact the whole of my family uses it and my mum has a 2.0 litre injection vauxhall cavalier and there are no problems there either my grandad has a 2.8 litre injection frontera and has no problems my brother also has a golf 1.3 like mine and no prob's have ever occured by using it the choice is yours but it happens to be the best that i have ever used. with regards sallyann. |
