93 Civic Ex Coupe is VTEC right?

Okay I had this huge argument with this guy at my school about my car. He supposedly knows "everything about Honda" and was trying to tell me that VTECs were only put in Civic Ex's after 1996.

From what I've heard here and other sites, all Ex's come with VTEC from the factory except 4th Gen. Ex's.

I even checked kbb.com and typed in 93 Civic Ex Coupe. It said the engine was a 1.6L VTEC.

Once I showed the guy that my car was a 1.6L and the engine was a D16Z6, he insists it's a swap.

Did all Ex Coupes come from factory with VTEC in the 92-95 Gen? (I believe 5th), or am I wrong?
