'92 Taurus stalling
This one gets scarey. The engine just goes off, no noise, etc. and it will crank over but it won't restart. The EEC (ECC?) fuse, the 30 amp green one, blows. But........most of the time just replacing the fuse gets it going again for awhile. I love intermittent problems. Twice it happened when I hit a bump, the other time it also hesitated (went off and on a few times) almost like a carb problem. Also, the last time replacing the fuse resulted in the fuse blowing again, instantly. This was good because it seemed the problem was going to stay around long enough for me to find it. No such luck. Towing the car about 5 miles made the problem disappear again.
A quick search around the internet turned up a problem with the TFI ignition module on the distributor. The symptoms sound like mine except I understand that, if the TFI module does shut the engine down, this doesn't blow any fuses. (sigh) I found a lists of recalls and TSB's but no details. Ford TSB# 62.9675, March '96, Engine-Intermittent might be it but how do I get ahold of these bulletins? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Mike |

If you haven't spent a lot of money so far, the fix may be very simple. In my case, I spent hundreds of dollars on Oxygen sensors and labor and everything else, just to find that the problem was a vacume hose $2.00. The Taurus has lots of vacume hose all over the place and often close to the manifold where it gets hot, cracks and consequently trips the Oxygen sensors. Ford Motor Company dealer missed the problem for three years. The hose that was bad on my Taurus was located under the battery. Simple fix. Hundreds of $$ wasted. Last Ford I'll ever own.

Re: '92 Taurus stalling
I know what you mean grants, years ago I heard that Ford means Fix Or Repair Daily, my wife bought this one before we got married. Good thing.
Anyway, would a tripped oxygen sensor also blow the EEC, (green 30 amp) fuse? Did this happen in your case? Thanks for your help. Mike |
