305 into c-10
O.K. here goes. I know that all of you out there will cringe at this but I'm working on a paupers budget. I tore a 305 out of a 91 buick roadmaster at a pick-a-part joint for $50. I have a 77 c-10 that has a cracked block. I am going by the manual to replace gaskets and such and have the help of good friend that is a good mech but he has about no time just like me. I have the engine in the back of my truck sitting in the back yard and am cleaning and working on it that way. What advice do any of you have about hp mods that I might be able to aford besides tossing the 305 in the garbage and getting another 350? So far the thing is pretty clean, the pushrods are straight, the rockers are not cracked and the spark plugs were o.k. clean.
Thanks from a first time project atempt. |

Re: 305 into c-10
Something easy? First off, you'll need to use the distributor and water pump from the '77, but use the flywheel and starter from the Buick--the 305 flywheel is a smaller diameter and has a balance weight.
Get an Edelbrock Performer intake to fit a 1988 and later small block. Use a Holley 450-to-500c.f.m. Double Pumper. That way, when you stomp on it, it will be wide open. Don't get a vacuum secondary, they suck. Install a set of headers, some decent turbo mufflers, and get an Accell performance coil that installs to the top of the H.E.I. distributor cap. Get a distributor curve kit and install the lightest springs --no use messing with the weights, just change the springs--- Keep a post on your progress, ---TEX--- |
