Trap Oxidizer

Hello to all in the forum. This is my first post and am wondering about the infamous trap oxidizer. I have recently purchased a beautiful 1985 300D and I think it still has the oxidizer canister under the turbo. I am further convinced by the large air filter that sits on the top front of the wheel well and has a very deep filter cartridge. I believe there was a recall, and during my inquiry to MB dealers, who were kind enough to look up my Vin #'s, informed me that there were 2 fixes to a leaking trap oxidizer that occurred to my very vehicle. Why didn't they replace the trap oxidizer during the repairs? My question, now, is should I leave the thing in or replace it with some parts from the junk yard? I live in California. Maybe I should let well enough alone. I can't seem to find any information on oxidizers so I am hoping that one of you can guide me here. Thank you. More to come. -ED
