Manual or auto transmission??

What would you use for a 383 stroker om a 71' chevelle??? i have the oportunity to choose between a 3rd gen camaro manual or a turbo 700 auto, what do you think is the best choise knowing its gonna be a week end street/strip driver???

i like more the manual but i'm open to opinions about de good and the bad of both transmissions...

Re: Manual or auto transmission??

Okay, the T5 out of the 3rd gen camaro is weak. It's known for it's weakness, they didn't even put it with a 350 cause the torque would have been too much. As for the auto, you may experience the same problem, but I dont' know for sure, check out the Firebird or camaro forums for more info on that Tremec T5 or do a search on the web, and see how much hp/tq it's good for. Hope this helps.

Re: Manual or auto transmission??

I run a stroker in my '72 camaro with a TH400. A 700 needs money dumped into it. How much money depends on your cam, rear end ratio, horses and the person that built it.

Re: Manual or auto transmission??

T5's are junk... 700's aren't the cats pajammas either - I agree the turbo 400 is probably the best automatic. For a manual just about anything used in a big block vette is pretty decent.

74-79 Ramcharger or 100, slant or no motor - not interested in v8 - Overdrive 4 is a big plus, NO hopeless rust buckets!!!
3Rd gen F body floor pans/camaro door skin (L)

Why is it I see so many "Proud to be an American" bumper stickers on the backs of cars made in Japan or Korea??????
