Urgent Questions regarding GST

Hey whats up guys. I need to know how reliable a GS-T is with around 97k miles. Im pretty sure it's not but Im not so sure about eclipse motors. The reason is that a guy is selling his GS-T and came to me first about it. If it isn't reliable, what can I do to the engine to reinsure reliability? How much will it cost to get the engine rebuilt? I plan on putting a greddy turbo kit and intercooler in it if i can get it Please any comments will help dearly because i really want this GS-T or a GSX
thanks

I wouldn't recommend scaring someone off by just telling them to look at one problem with the car.. does GS-T just mean crankwalk to you?

once again, reliability of a turbo eclipse is going to be less than a lawn-mower powered honda because it has more power, and the rest depends on how it was taken care of. i can't think of anything else

I too am buying a 97 GST with 97k miles on it and I researched this thoroughly because I was kind of freaked out. Apparently crank walk is more of a myth, happens very rarely although the scare is common. Ive been told if it doesn't have it buy 97k miles, its not going to get it by various people so that was reassuring. However every DSM owner has assured me these cars do tend to fall apart so you basically have to learn what you are doing and put em back together. Door handles breaking off, windows rattle like all hell, etc. The good part is every single one of them wouldn't trade the car for the world no matter how many things go wrong with it. If you dont wanna put it back together, go get a honda.

I still don't agree with the whole 'yes its unreliable but i still like it' because they arent unreliable. The fact that people like to modify their DSM's to have 400 wheel horsepower, and in fact DO have more problems.. theres a huge connection there. However you can drive a stock DSM for a decade and have it be fine.

well then why did you start off by saying seach for CW, the cars got 90k miles its not gunna get CW, maybe if it was a NT and you turboed it then i might have a slim chance but i will bet anything that car will never get CW, the very few cars that get it its usually between 30-50k when i happens...shit when i bought my car i could car less about CW cause i alreay knew my car was pretty much out of the stage...but now that i have modded it, i know more about it!!

TheChad25: It all depends on the car that you buy. If it was beaten up, well then what do you expect. If it was taken care of, then have fun! You need to look at the price and the car and decide if it is worth YOUR money.
Crimson: I have never heard of a door handle falling off but I am sure it isn't that hard to fix with a little bit of tools and knowledge of where things fit(common sense). Also, the window rattle is a common thing with 2g eclipses. As a matter of fact, I fixed my window rattle today in about an hour. It was very easy to do. Most problems that eclipses have are relatively easy to fix and you can in fact do it yourself without major trouble.

The door handles do tend to break and I never said the window rattle was hard to fix, I simply stated they have problems and you will have to work on them no matter what people tell you. Most of the problems are relatively small and easy to fix which is good, just have to learn.

I wasn't disagreeing with you, I was just saying that I never heard of door handles falling off. With the window rattle, most people would freak out and take it to a professional. I was just stating that it wasn't hard to fix and almost anyone can get it done themselves. If I offended you, that wasn't my intention.
