1990 camry starting problems

my 1990 sometimes makes a loud screeching noise when i try to start it, and when i just shift the gears up and down it would start again, but now the problems is getting worse and i usually have to wait about an hour before the car would start, any ideas wat the problem can be???? thanks...

Yes the flex plate or called ring gear in the transmission and starter drive gear. Very common for that body style. Is it a 4cyl.
