98 blazer 4 door, 4x4 need some suggestions...
Ok I have 2 issues with my blazer. Other then this I love it! I have owned it for 3 years now...
First issue... The 4x4 doesnt work. When you press the automatic shifting buttons all you hear is a click on the passenger side floor.. right by the foot panel... I read on this board thatr it might be some kind of vacumm control thing... My question is this... is the vacumm control for the 4x4 above the transfer case or is it in the engine compartment. Second issue. My head lights, interiror light and dash lights all flash on occassion. Sometimes they do it sometimes they dont...It seems they wont do it when its extremely cold outside, but whenevr the temp gets above 30 they do it... Any thoughts? I am at a loss on this one.... If you can offer any adivce I would really appriciate it! Yours, Jason |

There is a vacuum switch on top of the transfer case, the hose connector falls off, if not it could be bad. That switch sends vacuum to an actoator under the battery which locks the front axles. I hear the control unit ???????? for the 4WD also get stupid. Mine was the hose connector.

same problems
I am having the same 2 problems with my 98 blazer. The problem with the 4wd shifting has been a nightmare. The 98 blazer has an electrical encoder motor to switch into the different drives,Chevy no longer uses the vacuum switches. My mechanic told me the computer said the motor was bad, But he didn't feel confident with trhat because everyone he talk to said these motors never go bad.I took it to the dealer to have it diagnosed and they said it was the motor. My machanic replaced the motor today and guess what it still doesn't work. If anyone has any ideas i could use some help,i'm already $500 in to this problem with a spare encoder motor since they won't take it back.
