Taco tru duals
I recently purchased a 2001 tacoma ( 4x4 / 5VZFE ). I really would like to put dual exhaust in it. The only headers I can find are for Y pipes. I would like true duals all the way back (or maybe an H pipe). Any suggestions?

That dual exhaust will kill your Torque and the only horsepower you will have will come on at 5,000 rpm.
Anything over 2 1/4 " in diameter will kill torque. 1 1/8" duals!!! Awesome!!! will look like a Kia. |

I didnt say it was going to be free flow. I do plan on cats and moderate mufflers.

just kidding around!
Why not just go with a Borla or TRD cat back with a free flow converter? This would definately give you more power across the RPM range, plus it is more or less a bolt on affair.

Any ideas on how much of an increase to expect on the cat back exhaust, 10 - 15 hp ? Also, are those TRD headers going to give me a boost worth their price?

hp gain
The headers are supposed to yield a significant gain and the cat back should help. I wouldn't expect a large higher RPM gain. Off the line and up to about 3500 should be a big gain though. I have the Borla cat back and a free flow converter. My truck basically idles stronger and feels stronger at low rpm. I can't really tell any difference at high RPM. It does sound much better without being overly loud or annoying.

Yea, I wasnt looking for something loud, just something that sounded nice. Can you tell me where you got your borla setup? Also, how much did it set you back? Thanks a bunch

borla
I got mine from Downey Off Road but I paid too much. Performance products and 4 Wheel Parts both match prices so I have always done very well playing them against each other.

Re: Taco tru duals
I use magnaflow performance muffler, it sounds great with a nice tone and pitch, which is not quiet and not too loud. I can feel more power, probably gained somewhere 8-10hp.
