hesitation/sputtering/running rough

i have a 1995 civic ex, vtec. with 144000 miles on it. when the car is warmed up it hesitates. doesn't do it all the time, but its getting worse. it happens even sitting at traffic lights. i changed the fuel filter, plugs, cap, rotor. does anyone have an idea of what else it could be and how to go about fixing it. thanks for the help Tim

my 1995 honda civic dx is doing the same shit except the sputtering problem was fixed when i changed the spark plug wires. As for your hesitation problem and your rough idling when the car is warm, im afraid to say that you may have a transmission problem. The mechanics i took my car to said that they suspect the torque converter is the problem and that it may need to be replaced. I still have a feeling that the torque converter isnt it and that the motor is the main problem. All my sensors are working fine and there are no vacuum leaks anywheres either. So now im thinkin of selling or trading my car and gettin something newer with really low mileage so i dont have to deal with this kinda problem again.

If you ever find out what the problem is, please let me know. I want to know what the fuck is wrong just as bad as you do. this is frustrating as hell

Tim, It sounds like you might possibly have clogged fuel injectors or if not then maybe an air/vacuum leak. By the problem showing up after the engine heats up either means that the problem is more apparent at a lower RPM or the clearances are opening up allowing an air leak somewhere. To clean the injectors you can throw a can of fuel system cleaner like Slick50 cleaner in the gas tank with a high octane fill up, it could help and won't hurt.
The fact that you say it doesn't happen all the time is puzzling though, more like an electrical problem, but you changed most of those replaceable parts already. Take a look at the engine grounding strap and change it if it's beat up or oily, I've read that could cause some intermittent problems when they go bad. It's always harder to find a problem when it doesn't happen continuously. Good Luck.

Re: hesitation/sputtering/running rough

my friend had the same problem with his teg. It would hesitate and sputter when he would start going from a stop. We thought it might have been his valves cause we could here a ticking too, well had the valves adjusted and the ticking went away, but it still hesitated. Used some Chevron injector cleaner and it helped, but didn't completely get rid of it. So we pulled the injectors out and had my friend's dad clean them and it ran fine after that. BTW: I had the same problem too, but mine was my auto tranny, ended up blowing the thing like 1000 miles later and got a JDM D15B tranny for it

Re: hesitation/sputtering/running rough

I would change the simpliest thing - spark plugs and wires.
