Priming question
When priming, do I have to cover the entire car surface or do I just apply a mist that when dry will still allow me to see the plastic though ?
Also, I read some of the beginner posts and isnt it a week too long to let primer dry specially if I need to add some putty and sand ? I was thinking 24hr before I putty and then another 24hr if I need to respray, then maybe 48 hrs before I beging to work on the color coats. thanks, I am new to this so please have patience I am a quick learner ! |

The point of priming is to cover the plastic, if you don't cover it with an even coat of primer what is the point?
Drying times vary for different paints and primers, a week is certainly not too long, especially not when you're a beginner. Experience will teach you what dries faster or slower in what conditions, in the meantime wait a week and be safe.

Re: Priming question
I am using tamiya stuff, because I tryed testors paint and I didnt get good results.
So far my model is covered very nicely, it has been drying since yesterday morning, I it seems pretty smooth with what I hear is the typical tiny grain of the primer. I have a little place where the rear bumper meets the body in a little corner that I feel could use a little bit of putty. do you think it would be safe to touch it up today, let it sit till wed, sand it even and sand the body with some 1200grit to make it smooth and get rid of the tiny grain? or does the grain have its pourpose? thanks ! |

You should be able to do the required putty work without any problem.
You can lightly sand the primer to even it out but the texture does have a purpose, it gives the paint a better surface to adhere to.
